History of Visakha Bucha Day
This day commemorates three pivotal events in the life of Buddha , all of which occurred on the full moon day of the sixth lunar month (called the month of Visakha).
The full moon of Visakha marks the day Buddha was born, attained enlightenment 35 years later, and the day he died and entered Nirvana 45 years later.
Celebration
Celebrating Visakha Bucha Day means making special efforts to bring happiness to the needy like the elderly, the disabled and the sick.
Buddhists will distribute gifts in cash and kind to various charity houses across the country.
Government offices and schools will be closed, but banks and shopping malls will remain open.
Alcohol sales banned on Visakha Bucha Day
Due to the importance of the day to Buddhists in Thailand , the sale of alcohol is subject to restrictions.
But, since Saturday, May 10, 2025, certain establishments in tourist areas can sell alcohol.
