Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn has been officially proclaimed the new King of Thailand, and will reign under the name Rama X.
Statement by the new king after an audience with the Speaker of Parliament:
"I responded favorably to the wishes of the late king for the good of all Thai people."
The prince returned on Thursday, December 1, from his residence in Germany. Upon arrival, he received religious leaders and, after an official proclamation from Parliament, he became the new King of Thailand .
He will reign under the name of Rama X or His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun , he is the 10th king of the Chakri dynasty .
Born on 28 July 1952 in Bangkok , King Vajiralongkorn , 64, is the second of four children of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit .

The coronation is expected in a year
The new king will be crowned after the cremation of his father, Bhumibol Adulyadej , which is not expected to take place for another year.
Construction of the former monarch will begin in 2017, the government said, adding that 8,000 people would be involved in the work.
