Accessibility Statement
We are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and regularly apply current accessibility standards and best practices.
Compliance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define the requirements that designers and developers must follow to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. They define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
We have installed an automatic accessibility tool that runs in the background. This tool uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to fix accessibility gaps in HTML code. In addition, it provides an interface that allows visitors to modify their browsing experience. The comprehensive set of tools aims to help this site comply as much as possible with WCAG 2.1 Level AA .
Additional accessibility considerations
While our goal is WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance, we also applied some Level AAA success criteria: Text images are used for decorative purposes only. Some WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements are not included in the remediation process because they are outside the scope of the website's source code, such as video captions.
Measures taken by this website to comply
- Complete website audit according to WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements and correction during page load. All page elements are analyzed and checked against our accessibility standards library to ensure compliance. If a correction is necessary, the element is flagged and our Ai correction tool makes the necessary, non-invasive corrections on the client side of the site.
- Automatic image and link recognition and correction for content that does not contain alt text or headings for users who require a screen reader; descriptions are stored for user adjustment to assist our machine learning algorithms.
- Quick access to search on Meriam's website to find the definition and pronunciation of words.
- Adjustments for color blindness to improve color distinction for red-green color blindness (deuteranomaly, protanomaly, protanopia, deuteranopia), blue-yellow color blindness (tritanopia, tritanomaly), and other types of color blindness (achromatopsia, achromatomalia).
- Reset fonts to Arial or implement dyslexia-friendly .
- Ability to highlight titles and links.
- Enlarge text
- Scaling of content, font, line height, line spacing and zoom
- Content alignment, including left, center, and right
- Dark and Light Contrast and High Contrast modes that increase the contrast ratio to 135% and completely invert colors
- Saturation adjustments including high (140% saturation), low (90% saturation), and monochrome (0% saturation)
- Complete element color control, including title, font, and background color adjustments, with risk-free color palettes to ensure an optimal contrast ratio of 4.5%
- Ability to stop animations (videos, animated graphics, transitions between web elements, etc.), hide all images and mute sound
- Simple reading guide or more elaborate page mask to help users focus on the page content
- Highlighting elements on hover or focus to allow keyboard and mouse users to orient themselves to the selected element
- Screen reader that reads the page content on highlighted elements
- Full keyboard navigation control
- Settings grouped into browsing profiles to quickly deploy accessibility configurations for multiple user types.
