Thailand has ordered an investigation into the boat accident that injured four Chinese tourists in Bangkok on Thursday, June 6.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok when a longtail tourist boat collided with a Royal Thai Navy ferry.
Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri said four Chinese passengers, one man and three women, had fallen into the river.
Although slightly injured, they were quickly rescued and taken to Hua Chiew Hospital in Pomprap Sattruphai district for treatment.
The tour boat sank as a result of the collision, while the Royal Navy ferry suffered minor damage.
At the time of the incident, two naval officers were on board the ferry.
The owner of the tour boat has agreed to fully compensate for the damage.
Manaporn said the Marine Department has been tasked with contacting the tour boat owner to ensure that injured passengers receive assistance and treatment.
"The agency has also been tasked with investigating the incident to determine its cause.
If the investigation reveals that the collision was due to the negligence or misconduct of the tour boat owner, the tour boat owner's operating license will be suspended."
In response to the incident, several agencies were tasked with developing measures to improve the safety and comfort of boat passengers.
According to Manaporn, the Marine Department noted that the tour boat's license was due to expire on February 8 next year.
In addition, the boat's helmsman, Techasit Jakkarinsukjaroen, is certified as a second-class helmsman for motorized river vessels, and his certificate is valid until March 19, 2028.
