Shooting in Rayong. Photo: Thai Police.
A tragic shooting occurred in Rayong, where a woman was killed in front of her two-year-old daughter on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
The police are investigating two main motives: problems with a colleague and a dispute with an ex-husband.
Rayong police are intensively searching for a gunman who shot a woman in front of her two-year-old daughter.
The incident occurred in the 89 Villa housing estate, in Rayong Province.
Witnesses reported that the child had been left horrified and in tears at the scene.
The police received the distress call around noon.
The attacker followed the victim in a bronze Nissan March and ambushed her just in front of her house.
The attacker fired several shots through the driver's side window, hitting the woman in the head and torso, causing her to collapse in the street, bleeding profusely.
The vehicle involved was a white Toyota Yaris, registered as ขล-9270 Rayong, with the engine still running when the police arrived.
The victim was identified as Methawi Arjaksa, 30 years old, who worked on a dock in Koh Samet.
By her side was her two-year-old daughter who, although unharmed, was crying in the passenger seat, overcome with fear.
Investigators, including forensic experts and medical staff from Rayong Hospital, quickly arrived at the scene.
They carefully examined the trajectories of the bullets and collected evidence before transporting the body to Rayong Hospital for further examination.
A key witness, Suvichak, 55, recounted the events.
He stated that the attacker had followed Methawi's car to her home, got out of his vehicle, approached her and fired several shots through the car window before fleeing.
The police also examined the CCTV footage, which shows the suspect's car speeding away in the direction of Wat Nai Rai temple.
The police are currently working to find the vehicle's registration number in order to locate the suspect, who is believed to be hiding in the region.
According to people close to the victim, Methawi had ended her relationship with her ex-husband some time ago and was living alone with her daughter.
It was also noted that Methawi had had conflicts with a colleague serious enough to involve the police.
The police are currently focusing on two potential motives: long-standing issues with a colleague or a possible link with her ex-husband.
Investigations are underway to interview colleagues and close associates to uncover further details that could lead to the apprehension of the killer.

A shooting killed a 62-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter at their home near a railway line in Samut Sakhon on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Supachai Metta Mitphong, deputy inspector at Bang Thorat police station, received a distress call around 8 pm regarding the fatal shooting in an unnumbered house located in Samut Sakhon district.
The crime scene was a thatched-roof house near a pond, where officers found two lifeless bodies.
The victims were identified as Buppha Priyong, 62, and her daughter Arisara Thong-umphai, 22.

Boonma Thong-umphai, Buppha's 83-year-old husband, said that he and his wife had rented the land to raise shrimp.
Their daughter Arisara and her child lived with them.
On the day of the incident, two young men in their twenties, who are believed to be related to Buppha, entered the house and fired several shots.
Boonma heard more than 20 gunshots and initially thought they were shooting at birds.
He asked them to leave, but they claimed they were just shooting birds.
Later in the evening, Buppha went to the police station to file a complaint.
When Boonma returned home after hearing more gunshots, he found his wife and daughter dead, his granddaughter injured, and immediately called the emergency services.
Juthamas Thong-umphai, Buppha's eldest daughter, aged 35, stated that her mother had informed her of an incident earlier in the day and that she had gone to Bang Thorat police station to file a complaint.
Buppha explained that her granddaughter had been threatened with a firearm on the forehead and chest.
Juthamas confirmed that the family had no other disputes or conflicts with anyone.
While they were at the station, relatives of the suspects called Buppha, begging her to drop her complaint, and she refused.
Later in the evening, as Buppha and Arisara were returning home, the suspects allegedly followed them and shot at them.
Police revealed that Buppha had officially filed a report at Bang Thorat police station around 11 am, naming Gear and Palm as suspects.
The suspects are still on the run and the police are investigating the motive behind the attack.

Some Thai people, irritable and highly strung (and this is not new) are quick to react and have a sensitive finger when it comes to settling a dispute their way, and this ranges from a simple benign dispute to a romantic relationship that goes sour, through jealousy of a romantic rival, the lure of gain, the consequences of a traffic accident, or from a simple horn honking too hard, all these circumstances that lead to deadly dramas in circumstances where intoxication and drug use are not absent.
It's a far cry from the time when Thailand could claim perfect safety for foreign or Thai tourists on vacation and used it as a selling point for a paradise and secure vacation.
Among the characterial adults, driven by violent impulses at the slightest incident and using lethal weapons often illegal and resulting from mafia trafficking, to the motorized gangs of delinquents sometimes aged barely 13 or 14 who use gratuitous violence on anyone who has the misfortune to cross their path, Thailand must today face this new face of all-out violence that affects urban areas with high population density, but no longer spares the rurality of certain affairs.
This will not bring grist to the mill of the Thai authorities responsible for promoting international and national tourism, whose security is no longer one of the primary qualities.
Most of the cases cited in this article will probably not reach the ears of the vast majority of international tourists.
Only those concerned about thoroughly researching the political and social climate of the country before deciding to spend their vacation there will have informed themselves, and they constitute only a minority among the 40 million tourists expected by the end of 2024…
The upcoming high season is likely to be dramatic if the police forces do not take all necessary measures to prevent such individuals guilty of premeditated murder most of the time from remaining at large.
Unfortunately, prevention in this area, with a police force pilloried for corruption and reluctant to patrol the privileged terrain of offenders, offers no guarantee to a population without effective and visible protection for all.
