On Wednesday, January 24, long queues formed at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport after a system failure.
The automated passport control system at Suvarnabhumi Airport was launched on December 15, 2023.

But the biometric blacklist system used by the Immigration Bureau crashed on Wednesday.
Major General Choengron Rimpadee said the problem started at 4:30 a.m. when the biometric blacklist system malfunctioned.
The process, which normally takes 45 seconds, then lasted more than a minute.
Automated passport control channels at the airport were also blocked, exacerbating the problem.
The congestion has particularly affected travelers heading abroad.
Lines grew and extended to the baggage screening areas, Choengron said.
Immigration officers had to manually screen all travelers and use the airport's Advance Passenger Processing System (APPS) to assist them with screening.
After discussions with the biometric system provider, service was restored around 1:30 p.m.

The biometric control system will need to be monitored and troubleshooted within minutes if the government is to achieve its desired tourism target…
