British tourist destroys 7-Eleven in Bangkok, Thailand

Thai police arrested a young British tourist for destroying property at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Bangkok at 3 a.m. on Monday, April 3.

A TikTok video clip filmed by a European shows a British tourist picking up various objects inside a 7-Eleven in Pathumwan district and throwing them at the door in an attempt to break the glass.

It seems that the tourist wanted to break the door to get out, but the door was not locked.

The frightened employees quickly left the store.

The tourist began destroying property and, after failing to break the window, realized the door was unlocked and left the store.

The tourist who was filming the sequence, and who said he did not know the perpetrator, asked him:

"Why are you doing this?" but the tourist didn't answer and walked off into the night, his face blank.

Pathumwan Police Station Superintendent Colonel Noppadol Thiammeta said the incident occurred at a 7-Eleven along Kasemsan Lane at 3 a.m. on Monday.

The commissioner said police arrested the tourist and remanded him in custody at the South Bangkok Criminal Court.

He is suspected of three counts:

  1. Night intrusion
  2. Destruction of property
  3. Assault

Police did not release his name or age.

Netizens wondered if this was a setup to fuel social media, but police at Pathumwan police station believe this was not the case and that the behavior was more likely due to drunkenness.

The case is reminiscent of a similar incident in January, in which a Russian tourist ransacked two 7-Eleven stores in Pattaya .

Being much larger, the Russian had managed to cause much more damage, even going so far as to break the window of one of the stores.
