Two French tourists were arrested in Phuket after a video was released showing them engaging in an indecent act in a tuk-tuk.
After the famous song "They prefer love at sea", it seems that the trend has evolved towards "love in a tuk-tuk", if we are to believe several similar cases (see links at the end of the article).
A viral video sparked the police intervention

The video, shared online on January 30, 2026, showed two foreign tourists having sex in a tuk-tuk while crossing Patong Hill.
The post sparked numerous criticisms on social media, with netizens accusing the couple of damaging the island's tourist image.
Despite the fact that there are "hot districts" with an unbridled nightlife, Thai people are generally very modest and avoid intimate gestures in public.

Kathu Police stated that they had received photos and information from a concerned citizen showing the tourists undressing and committing an indecent act in a tuk-tuk registered in Phuket.
The agents then questioned the driver, Kittisak Phonbamrung, who stated that he had driven the tourists to a hotel in the Ratsada sub-district, in the city of Phuket.
In Patong, some tuk-tuks, equipped with powerful sound systems and flashing lights, offer passengers an atmosphere close to a mobile mini-disco.
According to the photo, the couple was in this type of vehicle.
The two French tourists identified and sanctioned
On January 31, 2026, the police found the two suspects, identified as Johanne V. C. and Franck C. W., both French nationals.
They were questioned and accused of committing an indecent act in public by exposing their bodies or engaging in obscene behavior.
Both admitted to the facts and requested to pay a fine during the investigation to settle the matter.
The police imposed a fine of 5,000 bahts (133.66 euros) each on them, the authorities said.
Either a moment of madness or the realization of a fantasy for 267 euros.
