Shooting in Thailand: the killer of a teacher and a student has been arrested

The main suspect in the November 11, 2023 shooting in Bangkok was apprehended in Chiang Mai province on Tuesday, December 19.

At dawn, a team from the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau arrested the suspect, Anawin Kaewkeb, 20, who was hiding in the Hmong Doi Pui tribal village in the Suthep subdistrict of Chiang Mai.

He was accompanied by his alleged accomplice, Krit Lamlerd, 23.

A member of the police team tasked with tracking current and former students of the rival school said they were still looking for another suspect, Abdulloh Dueramae, who is still on the run.

Thirteen other people linked to the shooting were arrested at Thung Mahamek police station.

According to the police, they are accused of criminal association of more than five people and complicity in the murders of two people.

Sirada, a teacher at the Sacred Heart Convent School in the Khlong Toei district, was shot dead while waiting in front of an ATM near her school.

A group of parents and students from Sacred Heart Convent School laid flowers to mourn the loss of teacher Maria Sirada Sinpraserton on November 13, in front of the Khlong Toey branch of TMB Thanachart Bank.

Thanasorn, 19 years old, a first-year student at Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, Uthenthawai campus, was seriously injured while waiting at a bus stop with a group of his classmates.

A few days later, he died at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

The student claims the shooting was part of his initiation

Anawin, a student at Pathumwan Institute of Technology, confessed to having shot and killed a vocational student and a teacher in Klong Toey district last month.

He claimed the murder was part of a second-year initiation adopted by his gang.

On November 11, during the shooting, Mr. Anawin allegedly got on a motorcycle before getting off and shooting Thanasorn Hongsawat, a 19-year-old first-year student at Rajamangala University of Technology, Tawan-ok Uthenthawai campus.

A stray bullet also killed Sirada Sinprasert, a 45-year-old computer science teacher at Sacred Heart Convent School.

Mr. Anawin's arrest came a day after 12 other suspects in the same case were apprehended during multiple raids in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan on Monday.

The shooting is considered a revenge attack resulting from a dispute between students from rival vocational schools, with the teacher being collateral damage.

According to the chief of national police, General Torsak Sukvimol, Mr. Anawin admitted his wrongdoings and regretted his act.

Torsak said it was a tradition for gang members to shoot students from a rival school to make it to the second year.

The police chief said the shooting was premeditated.

Mr. Anawin told police he had stolen a motorcycle license plate in the Din Daeng district.

He then began looking for his target from November 10 in the Rom Klao and Khlong 14 areas.

After searching for a whole day, he spotted a group of students from a rival school.

Mr. Anawin stated that he was sorry for the crime and wished to atone for his actions by making amends in the name of the victims.

He also warned vocational students against the temptation to follow a senseless tradition.

After the shooting, none of the senior students who had instigated him to commit the crime came forward or offered their help.

To put an end to this 'tradition', the police should also arrest all those who incited the crime and severely punish them.

There is also a strong chance that those who incited Anawin to commit these crimes are involved in other shootings of this type, as it is a tradition.

Strange, the killer is given 'mister', but not the victims…

It's really sad to have this picture of desolation in education in Thailand…

It looks like a war-torn country, unrest and gratuitous violence even within the school!

First, we must note the investigative work that allowed this police research and investigation section to arrest the murderer and his accomplice in this blind slaughter.

These "traditional" tragedies, from the role played by students in terminal classes, the "old guard", to the new "admitted under conditions" and the methods employed, the "tests" to be recognized as worthy of being a full-fledged student (but where is the dignity in all this?), demonstrate one thing: they are the direct consequence of a mental level bordering on absolute zero, a total lack of maturity and intelligence, an infinite inability to think and reason logically, and the little value placed on human life by some students manipulated and negatively influenced by older leaders, no more intelligent at the end of their studies than an oyster…

How can someone be so incomprehensibly stupid, idiotic, and intellectually drained to shoot and kill one or more completely innocent people in cold blood who were there, logically believing they were safe, among an anonymous crowd.

And to top it off, the murderer makes a declaration like an altar boy, regretting his assassin's gesture and apologizing to the families of the victims!

For that, they are champions: "It's not my fault, it's my karma"….

Today, Thailand makes me sick!
