Residents of southern Thailand must prepare for potential flash floods and landslides between Thursday and Sunday.
This new alert comes just a month after the deadly floods in Hat Yai.
Strong monsoon winds and heavy rains are expected to hit the region.
Seven southern provinces on high alert
Nakhon Si Thammarat Governor Somchai Leelanoi announced on Thursday, December 25, 2025, that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has put seven southern provinces on high alert.
These provinces are Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
This alert follows reports from the South-East Coast Meteorological Centre announcing a strong north-easterly monsoon bringing heavy rainfall throughout the region.
The agency has warned that waves in the region could reach two metres or more, advising small boats to stay ashore and urging fishermen and coastal communities to exercise caution.
Up to 90 mm of rain expected in 24 hours
Authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions and positioning emergency equipment in vulnerable areas where rainfall could exceed 90 millimetres in 24 hours, in order to expedite aid and minimize damage.
Residents in flood-prone areas should follow official alerts and monitor local water levels.
The authorities recommend downloading the "Thai Disaster Alert" application, available on iOS and Android, to receive updates and real-time alerts.
Those affected by bad weather can contact the DDPM hotline at 1784.
The authorities have stated that it is essential to prepare in advance to reduce the impact of the storm.
"We work 24 hours a day to ensure safety and minimize disruptions," said Mr. Somchai, urging residents to remain vigilant and follow government instructions.
Last month, a catastrophic flood submerged Hat Yai, in Songkhla province, the economic hub of the south.
The disaster affected 12 provinces in the south, resulting in over 270 deaths and disrupting the lives of millions of people.
- Seven provinces in southern Thailand are on high alert.
