A former attorney general predicts that the Thai Airways rehabilitation plan is sure to expose widespread corruption in the management of the stricken airline.
Wanchai Roujanavong claims on his Facebook page that what is about to happen will reveal a veritable Pandora's box of dishonesty and bad practices that the public would otherwise never have known about.
He cites as an example the allegedly exorbitant fees the carrier paid to lease aircraft as a major reason for its current heavy losses.
The lease agreements were allegedly entered into through several agents with the approval of the board of directors.
Wanchai claims that without the approved rehabilitation plan, the public would still be kept in the dark, "while the parasites would have continued to suck the airline's blood."
An article published on the Thai PBS World website indicates that Wanchai does not consider Thai Airways to be an isolated case.
Rather, he argues that uncovering corrupt business practices at the airline will highlight many more such cases at other government-owned enterprises.
Since the airline was a state-owned enterprise before filing for bankruptcy protection a few weeks ago, anyone involved in corruption will pay a higher price.
Thai Airways is said to have accumulated debts of around 200 billion baht.
Mr. Wanchai also recommended that Thailand's state-owned railway company, which has also suffered heavy losses, also file for bankruptcy protection.
