Although this measure had been proposed for Russians and Europeans, Thailand has granted 90-day exemption to Russians.
At its meeting on October 16, 2023, the government decided to extend the temporary stay period for Russian tourists to 90 days, up from 30 days originally, from November 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin declared that extending visa exemption for Russian tourists would boost tourism.
Russia is known for its glacial winters, which is why it has extended the length of stay from 30 to 90 days.
"Russians stay more than a month in Thailand.
“We want them to stay longer, as winter lasts from December to March.”
“I agree, as it is a positive development.”
I will also meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It's a sign of friendship between the two countries.
You will be able to negotiate various issues to improve things."
Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Thailand, said that the Ministry of Interior was aware of this policy and would ensure the safety of tourists.
"We will verify that visitors are indeed tourists and not individuals who have overstayed their visa validity."
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Russian tourists rank fifth in the number of international tourists entering Thailand between January 1 and October 1, 2023, with 994,431 people.
Malaysia ranks first with 3,280,622 people, China second with 2,509,698 people, South Korea third with 1,197,763 people, and India fourth with 1,165,935 people.
The total number of international tourists in the country is 20,051,535 people.
Before the Covid epidemic, Thailand had the largest number of Russian tourists among Europeans, with 1.48 million people in 2019.
It is unknown whether this measure will also be applied to Europeans in the near future or if the idea has been abandoned.

It's simply scandalous to give Russians 90 days on the pretext that winters are cold in Russia, what about Canada, Ukraine and other Nordic countries?
And we must not forget that some of these Russians have no regard for Thai etiquette and are responsible for the price hike in the kingdom for renting and selling properties in popular tourist areas!
Moreover, they are mostly involved in fights and illegal work, and they are in their ghettos because they have their own restaurants with signage exclusively in Russian, when it comes to corruption, here's another example.
The anxiety, still nothing for the French and even more Russians to deal with during the holidays.
Basically, I have nothing against them, but as tourists, they are ultra-unpleasant, noisy, vulgar and aggressive even when sober!
I'm disgusted, other tourists are breaking their heads to get all the many papers they ask for the 90-day visa, and the Russians who have no respect for the environment, they've received this gift.
Yes, Thailand is neutral…
And we also have cold weather, I'm disgusted with this stance.
Why the Russians?
