The incident was revealed after a Thai motorist, who was driving behind a tuk-tuk on Patong Hill in Phuket on January 29, noticed the inappropriate behavior of a foreign couple on board the vehicle.

The motorist recorded a video showing the couple undressing and having sex before sharing the video online.

The video quickly went viral, sparking fierce criticism from Thai netizens.

Many condemned the couple for their disrespectful behavior, which violated public decency and Thai cultural norms.

Others expressed concern that repeated incidents of this nature could harm Phuket's image as a family tourist destination.

Police investigation and arrest of the couple

The police arrested two French tourists after an indecent act was reported in a tuk-tuk on the island of Phuket.

Faced with increasing online pressure, officers from Kathu Police Station launched an investigation to identify the foreigners involved.

The police finally managed to track down the couple and arrested them on January 31 at a hotel in Thalang district, Phuket.

The suspects were identified as two French nationals, Johanne V. C. and Franck C. W.

The police charged them under Section 388 of the Penal Code: committing a shameful act in a public place by exposing their bodies or engaging in other obscene behavior.

The authorities imposed a fine of 5,000 baht (134.48 euros) each on them.

But then, the police coordinated their efforts with the provincial immigration office in Phuket to take further action.

Immigration officials revoked the couple's visas and added their names to the Thai immigration blacklist.

Authorities confirmed that the couple would be deported after paying the fine.

This incident has reignited public debate on how to handle similar incidents involving foreign tourists.

In recent years, several foreign couples have been caught engaging in sexual acts in public places or on public transportation.

In most cases, the foreigners involved have managed to leave Thailand without facing legal consequences.
