A drunk German tourist tried to evade a breathalyser checkpoint by ploughing into it with his motorbike in eastern Thailand.
He was arrested after crashing his motorbike into a traffic police checkpoint on Jomtien Road in Bang Lamung district, seriously injuring the officer.
Colonel Navin Thiravit, superintendent of the Pattaya City Police Station, said the incident occurred at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, November 2.
A foreigner riding a large Honda CB 650 motorcycle registered in Bangkok did not stop for a breathalyser test.
He accelerated, drove through the checkpoint and hit Lieutenant Colonel Rapeephat Phrommint, assistant traffic police inspector.
The assistant inspector was knocked down and seriously injured when his head hit the ground.
Rescuers took him to the hospital.
The foreigner, meanwhile, left his motorbike on the side of the road and fled into the bushes, then to nearby Jomtien Beach.

The motorcycle involved in the accident is being kept as evidence.
About fifty police officers found him and arrested him as he was coming out of the water on the beach.
He was then taken to Dong Tan Curve Police Station for a breathalyzer test, but the man refused to give his name or submit to a test.
Officers took him to the hospital for testing, which showed his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Police identified Mr. Christopher, 30, from the motorcycle rental documents and confirmed that he was the person who hit the officer.
Mr. Christopher faces four serious charges:
- Drunk driving and dangerous driving causing physical and mental harm to others and property damage;
- Failure to assist or notify authorities immediately after an accident, and fleeing the scene of the accident;
- Violation of traffic officer orders under the Land Traffic Act;
- Resisting arrest and obstructing officers in the performance of their duties.
Regarding the injured police officer's condition, doctors at Pattaya City Hospital are keeping him under observation for 3 to 4 days due to a slight cerebral hemorrhage and a minor fracture of the posterior nasal cavity.
If his condition does not improve, he will be transferred to Chonburi Hospital.

When a foreigner does this, it's straight to jail.
Fed up with all these unruly foreigners.
