Thailand has approved a comprehensive overhaul of its visa system to boost tourism and attract more long-term visitors.

On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Thai government approved a comprehensive set of measures proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to stimulate tourism, attract long-term visitors and support the economy.

The Deputy Government Spokesperson, Aiyarin Phanrit, clarified that these measures, implemented gradually, are intended to enhance Thailand's appeal to tourists, remote workers, and long-term residents.

With visa-free entry for nationals of 93 countries for a maximum period of 60 days and the extension of the visa on arrival (VoA) program to 31 territories, the new Destination Thailand visa (DTV) is aimed at remote workers.

The Non-Immigrant ED Plus visa, for its part, allows foreign students to work during their studies.

In the medium term, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will streamline non-immigrant visas, with the aim of reducing the number of categories from 17 to 7 by August 31 of this year.

E-visa services have also been extended to all 94 Thai embassies and consulates since January 1st of last year.

The Immigration Bureau has also implemented the new Thai Digital Arrival Card (TDAC).

Beyond the measures already implemented, the government anticipates further adjustments in the coming months.

Future projects include the addition of eight more countries to the VoA program and the revision of the criteria for granting retirement visas for long-term stays.
