After meeting the woman of his dreams on a dating site, a tourist was scammed by the woman and assaulted by her husband.
A 42-year-old Swedish man, Ahmet, recently fell victim to a scam after falling in love with a Thai woman he met online.
He discovered the woman on a dating app in June and quickly believed he had found true love.
In late July, she convinced him to send money for a wedding, saying they should share the expenses equally.

Screenshot of a WhatsApp chat where the Thai woman asks Ahmet to transfer her money for a wedding ring.
Ahmet sent the sum of 359,000 baht (9,617 euros) before traveling to Sukhothai on August 25 to meet her in person.
Upon arrival, he had to wait in a temporary room which she said belonged to a relative.
After two days of silence, Ahmet realized he had been deceived.
Desperate, and not knowing where to turn in a foreign country, he sought help from local rescuers dealing with flooding in the area.
They managed to contact the woman who arranged for a traditional engagement ceremony on August 30, replacing the wedding plans that had disappeared.
One of the rescuers attended the ceremony as Ahmet's witness and later shared the photos on his social media.
The Thai woman then asked him to delete the photos, but her husband, a soldier from Tak province, had time to see them.
The husband contacted the rescuer, claiming that he was still legally married to the woman and that he intended to take legal action against Ahmet.
Shocked and scared, Ahmet went to the Sri Samrong District Police Station in Sukhothai to file a fraud complaint.
But, despite the seriousness of the situation, the police refused to accept his complaint.
They even called the angry husband who confronted Ahmet, verbally abused him and violently pushed him into the police station.
Love scam spread in Thai media

The Swedish man who was scammed (right) was interviewed by journalists from Amarin TV.
Feeling in danger and eager to get his money back, Ahmet turned to Mr. Ekapop Leungprasert, an advisor to the Minister of Interior and founder of the Facebook page "Sai Mai Tong Rod" (Sai Mai Must Survive), a social complaint media channel.
Many people who are victims of injustice in Thailand, and who are confronted with police officers, sometimes corrupt, who refuse to help them, contact this page for help.

His story then interested other Thai media and he was interviewed by TV channels.
Ahmet lost a lot of money, the Sukhothai police strangely refused to help him, perhaps because corrupt police officers were involved in the scam, and the scammer's husband violently assaulted him in the police station and even claimed he was going to file a complaint against him.
This would have been enough to convince some people that there was nothing more to be done and to leave the country without hope of recovering the stolen money.
Ahmet may not be the first victim of this well-crafted scam.

But, unfortunately for the scammers, he was well advised to contact the famous Facebook page and the case is now public knowledge.
Now we have to wait and see if honest police officers will agree to take the complaint and arrest the thief.
Of course, you should be careful of the many scams on dating sites.
Of course, you should also never give money before having actually met the person and their family several times and knowing them well, before considering marriage.

He made my morning here at cnx.
Hansson, have fun, LOL.
Ppfffft…. YVES!!! What do you want me to say with such a level worthy of “dinner for idiots”.
The poor guy must have nougat instead of brains!!!
This isn't even at the level of a lovesick unfortunate...
This is the ultimate stage of the bonobo in love with a bunch of bananas.
I really feel sorry for this young man and I hope he remembers this for the rest of his life so that at least it will serve him well in his future romantic encounters!
The land of scams, there is no love in this country, it is very rare, it is just a question of currency.
Never get married.
Marriages, life contracts (or divorce) that suit states and religions tend to decrease more and more.
Well, very well... think before getting married...
Ameth, that's bad luck...
For the editor: is it possible to get the link for the Facebook page of "Sai Mai Tong Rod"? When you type this in the search bar, you open the page of "Saimai Tongrod" .. nothing to do with the site of Ekapop Leungprasert, which is also not found under this name.
THANKS.
Hello Hansson,
The page is not found on Facebook because the name is written in Thai.
