Thailand will expand its airports and build new ones to become one of the world's leading aviation hubs.
Thailand aims to position itself as an aviation hub by modernizing regional airports, building new ones in tourist hotspots, and utilizing Thai capabilities and assets to expand existing airports.
The government plans to more than double the annual capacity of Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan, southeast of Bangkok , to 150 million passengers and add a third runway by October this year.
Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport will also see its capacity increase from 30 million to 50 million passengers per year, thanks to the construction of a new terminal for international passengers and the expansion of existing facilities.
Similar improvements are planned at other regional airports to support the country's tourism industry.
The government aims to position Thailand as an aviation hub and leverage its strategic location in the Asia-Pacific region.
The investment for these expansions is estimated at around 100 billion baht and will be financed mainly by internal liquidity.
Phuket Airport in the southern region to accommodate 18 million passengers a year, up from the current 12.5 million.
There are also plans to build a new airport in the region.
Chiang Mai Airport is also expected to increase its annual capacity to 16.5 million by 2029, doubling its current capacity.

Thailand wants – Thailand wants – I want – me…
Without being chauvinistic, Thailand is a hub of many things, already more or less harmful...
Two days ago, Thailand wants more plastic in the seas, take care of that already...
Thailand wants no more pollution (I've been hearing that for 40 years).
Are there fewer fires this year?
No, there are more, Damn, missed again...
Roads... that's what Thailand wants, but never manages to achieve...
