Thailand's deputy police chief has ordered a crackdown on foreigners who overstay their visas in Thailand.
With the return of tourists to the country, General Surachate Hakparn has relaunched a new operation to hunt down foreigners overstaying their visas, as was the case before the pandemic.
A Chinese man arrested in Bangkok last week managed to overstay his visa in Thailand for an impressive seven years (2,662 days).
Yesterday (November 24), Surat Thani provincial immigration police and Koh Phangan toured the island to hunt down people who overstay their visas in the kingdom.
Three foreigners were arrested and detained at Koh Phangan police station.
Police arrested Alexander M., a Russian national, for overstaying his visa by 29 days, suspecting him of "being a foreigner whose authorized entry into the kingdom has expired."
Police arrested Ophélie J., a French national, for overstaying her 93-day visa, suspected of being "a foreigner whose entry permit to the kingdom has expired."
A foreigner living on the island was found to have never had a valid visa to Thailand.
Police arrested Kaew K., a Laotian national, on suspicion of "being an alien entering and staying in the kingdom without authorization," in violation of Section 54 of the Immigration Act 1979.
Intensification of surveillance of foreigners
Immigration Commander 6, Major General Praphansak Prasansuk, revealed that Thai immigration officers are stepping up their inspections of foreigners in Thailand.
General Praphansak said immigration officials are likely to investigate foreigners who "behave inappropriately, break the law, endanger the safety of others, damage property or harm the nation's image."
The police officer asked for public help in cracking down on foreign criminals in Surat Thani province.
If you see a foreigner committing any of the above offenses, please contact the Surat Thani Immigration Department at suratimmigration.go.th.

Evil foreigners.
For some French migrants, it's a double standard.
Thailand love it or leave it.
Nice tolerant Frenchman.
Will they be able to expel them more easily than here? 🙂
Of course, no problem with that and no need to pay for their plane ticket...
Afterwards, in France, illegal immigrants do not have passports and do not give their nationalities.
Are you referring to illegal immigrants from Ukraine or the United States?
Or perhaps those from the United Kingdom?
It seems that Australians and New Zealanders are allowing themselves some lapses in their behavior with regard to immigration law in France.
It's rather complicated to deport them, and it seems that they benefit from some privileges.
To this day, this remains incomprehensible. Could you share your knowledge on the subject, Dave and Zap?
Is it better to have a foreigner who stays for six months and spends $6,000 or a tourist who spends a week with $1,500?
Yes, dirty foreigners who stay for a long time are a problem, especially if they don't also work.
Are you saying they don't wash, or they make Thailand dirty?
In Thailand, as in all countries, there are rules that foreigners must follow, period!
You French people are the first to complain about your government for not expelling illegal foreigners.
So follow the rules in Thailand and everything will be fine for you.
By the way, please feel free to apologize to the Thai people for your condescension, your insults, your disrespect.
Then, thank the Thai people for welcoming you, for allowing you a luxurious life that is impossible for you in this wonderful country that is France.
