Roshni Ward, 30, and her fiancé Louis Hunt, 33, began considering moving abroad after getting "fed up" with life in the UK, citing rising crime rates and gloomy weather as key factors.
Roshni was employed full-time as a team leader in broadband sales and often found herself working overtime on weekends, which prevented her from relaxing during her free time.
Louis worked full time as a carpenter, with 11-hour days including travel time, which also physically exhausted him.
"The work-life balance was poor."
"We were too exhausted to do anything over the weekend," Roshni explains.
The couple began seriously considering moving abroad after returning from a holiday in Thailand in December 2024.
Seeking a slower pace of life, they made the decision to move to Chiang Mai in September.
They quickly fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle, the friendly locals, the warm climate, and the stunning architecture.
"We always wanted to move abroad and we had already considered this idea," explains Roshni.

They gave up their apartment costing 1,531 euros per month for an apartment costing 340 euros with a gym, swimming pool and coworking space.
Their water bill now amounts to only 3.13 euros.
"I've always wanted to live abroad, and the cost of living here has been a shock, in a good way," said Roshni, who now works as a content creator while Louis runs an online fitness business.
"If we can avoid it, we won't return to the UK."
Their electricity bill amounts to only 49.90 euros and takeaway meals are sold for between 1.70 and 2.27 euros.
Thanks to the affordable price of taxis (around 1.70 euros per trip) the couple owns neither a car nor a motorcycle, which allows them to save money on fuel and maintenance.
A meal for two with drinks included rarely exceeds 9 euros.
"Even pints cost no more than 2.27 euros."
In Thailand, they rediscover the time to live and peace of mind.

Beyond the financial advantages, it was the slower pace of life, the friendliness of the locals and the dynamic culture that really appealed to them.
"In the morning, we can sleep in, swim, and then start working.
In the United Kingdom, life seemed rushed.
Here, you can finish work at 10 p.m. and still go out for dinner.
The couple also feel much safer in Thailand, especially Roshni, who said that the crime in her home country made her nervous.
Since moving there, they have enjoyed exploring temples, waterfalls and elephant sanctuaries, and say the warm welcome from expats and local communities helped them settle in quickly.
“We simply fell in love.”
We would be more inclined to start a family here; we feel safer and more relaxed.
We finally feel like life belongs to us.

Well, there you have it… a great experience, like mine or rather ours (my partner and I) for the past 14 years… and I suppose like many other expats!!!
Unfortunately, some have had other, less happy experiences, filled with illusions, false promises, and scams…
It is all about managing the human resources that present themselves, with the essential thing in mind on which everything that follows depends: remaining master of one's destiny and decisions... always, even if it sometimes requires difficult choices, but necessary to remain oneself and go, arrive where one wants to be with the one or those who have decided to follow the path that one is tracing.
"The couple feels much safer in Thailand, especially Roshni"...
It's certain that by importing belligerent aliens from lands where women have no say, the United Kingdom no longer has the same charm.
