Thailand wants to encourage travelers to spend more

Since July 2022, it has become much simpler to travel to Thailand, here are the details of the latest entry formalities by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Update : Thailand will lift the last entry restrictions on October 1, 2022, see: Travel to Thailand facilitated from October 1: end of restrictions

The TAT has published the rules below, which came into effect on July 1, marking a radical change, with measures that deterred tourists, such as the Thailand Pass, being abolished.

Pre-arrival requirements

For vaccinated travelers

Vaccinated travelers must have the following documents to enter Thailand:

  1. A valid passport, or a border pass for arrivals at border checkpoints.
  2. A Covid-19 vaccination certificate.
    – Anyone aged 18 and over must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 with an approved vaccine at least 14 days before traveling to Thailand.
See the end of the article: What are the vaccines approved by Thailand?
    – Travelers aged 5 to 17 who travel to Thailand unaccompanied must be vaccinated with at least one dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before traveling to Thailand.
Persons traveling with their parents are exempt from this requirement.

For unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers / not fully vaccinated must be in possession of the following documents to enter Thailand:

  1. A valid passport, or a border pass for arrivals at border checkpoints.

Warning : even if the TAT does not mention it, it is mandatory to undergo a RT-PCR test or an ATK test performed by a professional within 72 hours before travel; some airlines, such as Thai Airway, will refuse to let you board the plane if you do not have a test.

Arrival Requirements

Upon arrival in Thailand, all travelers must undergo an entry check, including a body temperature check, and present the required documents to the immigration/health check officer in charge of conducting the checks.

Vaccinated travelers will then be allowed to enter the territory and will be free to travel anywhere in the kingdom.

*People arriving by land and using a border pass will only be allowed to stay for more than three days in specified areas.

Similarly, unvaccinated travelers / not fully vaccinated who have proof of a negative RT-PCR test result or a professional ATK within 72 hours before travel will be allowed to enter and will be free to travel anywhere in the kingdom.

Unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travelers who have not obtained a negative result within 72 hours prior to their travel are required to follow the public health instructions and guidelines deemed appropriate by the health control officer at the point of arrival.

Warning

All expenses incurred are at the travelers' expense.

During the stay

During their stay in Thailand, vaccinated and unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travelers are required to strictly follow health and safety standards.

Travelers who exhibit symptoms similar to Covid must undergo a screening test.

If the test is positive, they must receive appropriate medical treatment.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand wishes all visitors a pleasant, safe, and enriching stay in Thailand during this exciting period when we can once again welcome travelers from around the world.

Does Thailand recognize mixed vaccination?

- Thailand fully recognizes mixed vaccination.

However, your second dose must be administered based on the recommended interval for each type of vaccine (first dose), as follows:

- 1st dose (Sinovac) = 2nd dose after 2 weeks

- 1st dose (AstraZeneca) = 2nd dose after 4 weeks

- 1st dose (Pfizer-BioNTech) = 2nd dose after 3 weeks

– 1st dose (Moderna) = 2nd dose after 4 weeks

– 1st dose (Sinopharm) = 2nd dose after 3 weeks

– 1st dose (Sputnik V) = 2nd dose after 3 weeks

*To be considered fully vaccinated, your second dose must be administered at least 14 days before your trip.

*People vaccinated with the Jansson (Johnson&Johnson) vaccine do not need to receive their second dose to be considered fully vaccinated.

I've already been infected with Covid-19; can I travel to Thailand?

– Yes. People who have already been infected with Covid-19 are considered fully vaccinated if they have received a single dose of the Covid-19 vaccine within 3 months of their recovery.

In this case, your proof or medical file of recovery from Covid-19 must be presented with your single-dose vaccination certificate.

However, if you have been fully vaccinated before contracting Covid-19, you are still considered fully vaccinated.

Hello Labie,

The insurance will no longer be mandatory after July 1, but recommended.

We don't really have advice on hospitalization insurance, there are many options available.
