A diving boat with 14 passengers capsized near the Surin Islands in Phangnga province in southern Thailand on Saturday, December 23.
A Thai national and a British tourist are missing following an accident during a scuba diving trip off the coast of the southern province of Phangnga on Saturday morning.
The Thai Maritime Enforcement Coordination Centre (Thai-MECC) was informed at 9 a.m. that the dive boat Porn Sawan had crashed and sunk near Torinla Island, also known as Koh Kai.
The incident occurred just outside the Surin Islands, about 7.4 km from the mainland.
The boat, with 14 passengers on board, had left Tap Lamung port for a diving excursion.
Responding to the boat's distress call, the fishing vessel Porn Supranee 9 managed to bring 12 people to safety.
However, two passengers, one of Thai nationality and the other identified as a British tourist, are still missing.
The 12 rescued people were brought ashore at noon, and search operations are still underway to find the missing persons.
