Weather alert in Thailand: storms and falling temperatures

Storm in Thailand

Are you going out today in Thailand? It's better to be prepared for anything.

Between the mountainous peaks of the North where the thermometer barely reads 7°C, the capital Bangkok which could be soaked by sudden showers, and the southern coasts where the sea is rough, the day on this Wednesday promises to be eventful, to say the least.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has officially issued an alert regarding these unstable conditions.

Rain and cold weather are expected in several regions of the country.

Why such a contrast?

A moderate cold air mass from China is currently sweeping across the northeast and the South China Sea.

Meeting the warm humidity of the Gulf of Thailand, this phenomenon creates an explosive cocktail mixing morning fog, localized storms and strong gusts of wind.

Consequences for the population:

Temperatures in the north and northeast will drop to around 17 °C, with fog.

The meteorological service advises the public to take additional precautions, as sudden health problems (colds, fatigue) may occur due to these sudden temperature variations.

At sea, caution is advised.

For the southern regions, scattered storms are expected.

Waves in the lower part of the Gulf of Thailand and off the Andaman Sea will reach 1 to 2 meters, but may exceed 2 meters in areas affected by storms.

It is advised that sailors avoid navigating these dangerous areas.

In terms of pollution, moderate to high levels of air pollution have been reported in the northern regions.

However, the cooler air and risk of rain could improve ventilation and air quality in certain areas.
