Heavy rains, 3-meter waves and flooding risks: Thailand is preparing for the impact of Typhoon Ragasa on September 23-26.
On Tuesday, September 23, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued an update on Typhoon Ragasa and placed the country on alert level 5, the highest level.
The alert covers all regions of the country.
The typhoon is moving west-northwest at a speed of 20 km/h.
As of Wednesday, September 24, it is 92 km south of Macau and is expected to hit the southern coast of China before heading towards the Gulf of Tonkin on September 25, 2025.
You can follow its movement on the Zoom Earth .
The storm will weaken to a tropical storm before making landfall in northern Vietnam.
It is expected to dissipate quickly due to cold air from China spreading over the region from September 25 to 26, 2025.
This storm will not reach Thailand, but it will bring heavy rains as many provinces in the country are already experiencing flooding.

Additionally, as you can see in the image below, a new tropical depression, named Bualoi, has formed in the eastern Philippines and is expected to develop into a Typhoon that will reach Vietnam on September 29 or 30.

The influence of Typhoon Ragasa has strengthened the monsoon depression that extends over northern and northeastern Thailand, as well as the southwest monsoon that covers the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.
From September 23 to 26, this will bring increased rainfall to northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, with heavy to very heavy rains in many areas.
Residents in affected areas are advised to exercise caution due to risks associated with heavy rainfall and accumulation of rain.
These conditions can lead to flash floods, landslides and river overflows, especially in areas near hills, rivers, plains and floodplains.
Coastal conditions
The Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand will experience stronger waves.
The upper Andaman Sea could experience waves reaching 2 to 3 meters, and in areas affected by thunderstorms, waves could exceed 3 meters.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution, and small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should avoid going out to sea from September 24 to 26, 2025.

Although, indeed, when we analyze the data of these 2 typhoons, their impact on Thailand, in the North and East zones will be relatively moderate in terms of winds, it is to be feared that the significant rainfall forecast until September 30 and beyond if the 2nd typhoon lingers in the East and center of Thailand, will cause new floods in many Thai provinces, whose ground is already waterlogged, while the retention capacities of the dams are already at their maximum and will not be able to hold back the rainfall to come in the coming days...
As usual, the authorities can only issue alerts to the population so that everyone evacuates and shelters as much movable and domestic property as possible, raising them at least 1 meter or more, and for cars or other professional vehicles and agricultural machinery to gather them in the highest possible parking areas in their town or village.
It is likely that in some rural areas, if the forecast rainfall is confirmed, residents will have to be evacuated or will have to take preventive refuge in temporary reception centers...
Once again, it is the most disadvantaged sections of the population, those who are already in precarious situations, who will be impacted the hardest!!!!
There remains the annual problem of Bangkok during this period between the end of September and the end of October, which sees the arrival in the Chao Praya in Nakhon Sawan of millions of cubic meters of water coming from the northern regions of the country, which the river cannot contain and which will invade the lowlands of the capital, from Don Mueang airport to the plains and delta of Samut Prakan...
The last week of September is likely to be catastrophic for thousands of Thais.
All that remains is to consider the possibility that Thai meteorologists have predicted the worst-case scenario and hope that the Kingdom only receives downpours that it can contain and control... fingers crossed!!!
